Frost Moon

November's full moon is called the frost moon; it feels that way tonight, as a chill in the air gives a hint of the snows to come. The moon is so beautiful that I would stay to watch it for a while longer, but a hot cup of tea and the warmth of Rivendell call me away for now. Goodnight, moon.

The Precious Gift of Time

What a precious gift is time!

Each moment is a jewel upon the sea,

borne up for one bright moment by the foam

then gone, seen henceforth but in memory.

The number of our days on earth is fixed,

the time allotted for the journey home.

How beautifully they shine, those days!

See them dancing there upon the waves

as with the tide they come, then go.

All Souls Day

41 Then they all blessed the just judgment of the Lord, who had discovered the things that were hidden. 42 And so betaking themselves to prayers, they besought him, that the sin which had been committed might be forgotten. But the most valiant Judas exhorted the people to keep themselves from sin, forasmuch as they saw before their eyes what had happened, because of the sins of those that were slain. 43 And making a gathering, he sent twelve thousand drachms of silver to Jerusalem for sacrifice to be offered for the sins of the dead, thinking well and religiously concerning the resurrection, 44 (For if he had not hoped that they that were slain should rise again, it would have seemed superfluous and vain to pray for the dead,) 45 And because he considered that they who had fallen asleep with godliness, had great grace laid up for them.
46 It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.

(This is the Old Testament documentation of the offering of prayers to God for the souls of those who have died. God is perfect, spotless, absolute Good; therefore, only those souls who have been purified may be in His Eternal Presence. Today, Holy Mother Church prays in a particular way for the Church Suffering, those who will enter Heaven after a period of purification.)

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
