Use well the days

Round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate
And though I have passed them by
A day will come
I will take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon and East of the Sun...
--J.R.R. Tolkien/Annie Lennox (Click here to see why Annie Lennox is billed with Tolkien.)

Thank you, Oliver!

  1. Quite right, Oliver! I posted these words, which are also the lyrics to a song written by Annie Lennox for the Peter Jackson "Rings trilogy", but I neglected to post the link to the song as I had intended. Thank you for you astuteness and for your very nice comment--and welcome! I spent a year or so in England, and it is one of my dearest memories. Please re-read my original post which now contains the "Use Well The Days" link. May God bless you.

  2. "West of the Moon and East of the Sun" seemed familiar to me in a non-Tolkein context:

  3. Thank you very much, kkollwitz, for the link; this story is delightful! I remembered a similar version from my childhood--my mother read it to my sisters and me. Thank you for writing, and may God bless you.

  4. Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
