Courage

Courage is sometimes frail as hope is frail: a fragile shoot between two stones that grows brave toward the sun though warmth and brightness fail, striving and faith the only strength it knows.

  1. That poor little rose bud. I have seen this sort of thing many times here in the desert. You can spot a lone flower blooming in a place where it should not be blooming - stuck in between rocks - no moisture - no space to grow. And yet somehow the tiny flower manages to live out a short life that God has given to it. There is a lesson here for all of us. In human terms, it is courage and faith that gives us the chance to live out our lives - however long, however short - in whatever circumstances we find ourselves.

  2. A thought occurs:
The flower doesn't know that it is between a rock and a hard place. It just tries to grow wherever its seed has landed, or its root is able to pierce through.

Perhaps we ought to be more like that, taking no notice of where we are planted, but just growing as best we can nevertheless. God who plants us wherever he wills is the all-wise gardener!

  3. Oh my. Now I have flowers coming out of my ears!! Don't you just love how these quotes and pictures release the imagination in us? I do. Kindred Spirit, this place is fertile ground!
