No jealousy their dawn of love overcast, nor blasted were their wedded days with strife; each season looked delightful as it past, to the fond husband and the faithful wife.
--James Beattie
I really like that picture. Those embroidered flowers, the pearl ring and the dove of peace are just delightful. And the words are meaningful -- "each season looked delightful as it past". How many of us can say that? There is no greater bond on this earth than that of "husband and the faithful wife". Our children grow up and leave us. Our spouse stays! It is worth everything to invest in the spousal relationship. Thanks once again, Kindred Spirit, for such a wonderful post.
Thank you both for your insightful comments, Robert and Hannah. I especially like the ring of three pearls: it is a reminder that real love is triune, and that is its hallmark. God, husband, and wife,--there must be three present to make a true marriage. God must always come before either spouse, and one's spouse must come before oneself. Is it any wonder, then, why so many marriages do not endure? May Almighty God bless you and give you joy.
Jealousy and alcohol are two big causes of strife in a marriage. Blessed the couple that can be free of these two during their entire marriage!
