Counsel

The first rule is to keep an untroubled spirit. The second is to look things in the face and know them for what they are.

  1. Keeping an untroubled spirit in troubled times is not always easy. Looking at the face of things can also be troubling. I guess the only resolution to this is our continued faith.

  2. It is all grace, isn't it, dear Hannah; and that is what your names means--grace. What a beautiful name you have! It was my grandmother's name, and I have always loved it. An untroubled spirit comes, I think, from being able to offer something of value to the good God, some little suffering or difficulty that is given to Him out of love. I call this "my little thorn." When the "little thorn" becomes especially painful to bear, I try to remember that it is my gift to Love, and then it doesn't seem so painful after all. "Love does such things." May Almighty God bless you, dear Hannah.
