Still she sings...

“Be as a bird perched on a frail branch that she feels bending beneath her; still she sings away all the same, knowing she has wings.”

--Victor Hugo

Thoughts which are prayers...

"There are thoughts which are prayers. There are moments when, whatever the posture of the body, the soul is on its knees.”

--Victor Hugo

Shadows...

“To think of shadows is a serious thing.”

--Victor Hugo

October

O hushed October morning mild,

Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;

Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,

Should waste them all.

The crows above the forest call;

Tomorrow they may form and go.

O hushed October morning mild,

Begin the hours of this day slow.

Make the day seem to us less brief.

Hearts not averse to being beguiled,

Beguile us in the way you know.

Release one leaf at break of day;

At noon release another leaf;

One from our trees, one far away.

Poetry can be...

"Your prayer can be poetry, and poetry can be your prayer."

--Noelani Day

Once again

“October is the fallen leaf, but it is also a wider horizon more clearly seen. It is the distant hills once more in sight, and the enduring constellations above them once again.”

--Hal Borland
